U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson was in Philadelphia Saturday night to remember Freedom Summer with the Neshoba County Youth Coalition.
The Neshoba Youth Coalition was also celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Philadelphia Coalition that led a call for justice in the 1964 civil rights murder here and led to a conviction in 2005.
The youth are celebrating a legacy of unity and progress in conjunction with Freedom Summer remembrances, organizers said.
Thompson encouraged Philadelphians never to let younger people forget the town’s history.
