Neshoba Central, Choctaw Central playing in state

The Neshoba Central Rockets basketball team finished the regular season with a 21-8 record and were scheduled to kick off the 5A State Championship tournament on Tuesday night against the Columbus Falcons at 6 p.m. 

The winner advances to play Cleveland Central on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. 

The Rockets finished the regular season last week beating Ridgeland 61-53 in a district tournament before falling to Canton 42-41 to end the tournament. 

The Neshoba Central girls basketball team finished the regular season with a 23-5 record and were also scheduled to face off against the Columbus Falcons in the state championship Tuesday at 6 p.m. 

The Lady Rockets finished the regular season last Friday losing in a nailbiter to Ridgeland in the District Tournament 62-60. 

Freshman Kyli Truss led the team in the contest with 19 points, followed by sophomore Lanayah Henry with 17 points. Senior Shaylynn Hunter added 15 points to the team total. 

Ridgeland outscored the Lady Rockets in the first quarter 16-11 and went into halftime up 32-27. The Lady Rockets rebounded in the third quarter to take a six-point lead but the Titans fought back in the fourth quarter to outscore the Lady Rockets 22-14. 

Choctaw Central

The Choctaw Central Warriors finished the season on an 8-game win streak, besting Louisville last week 75-49. 

The Warriors, 20-9, were scheduled to kick off the state tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Ripley. 

The Choctaw Central Lady Warriors, 23-8, are looking to win another state championship after winning their first-round matchup against North Pontotoc 53-44 on Monday. 

The Lady Warriors are scheduled to face Tishomingo County at 6 p.m. on Friday.
