A throng of media crowded into City Hall to cover the press conference calling for justice in the 1964 civil rights murders.
A long row of cameras from five different television stations were up front in the board room of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Newspaper reporters from at least three of the state’s largest newspapers sat in the back of the room jotting down notes, later asking questions and interviewing individuals attending the event.
Photographers ducked under television cameras and roamed from one side of the room to the other taking pictures at a variety of angles, flash bulbs flickering.
The Clarion Ledger, the state’s largest newspaper, covered the press conference and on Tuesday ran a feature on a new brochure being produced by the county that will show the roots of the civil rights struggle and be distributed statewide at welcome centers.
Also at Wednesday’s press conference were representatives from: WAPT-TV and WLBT-TV out of Jackson, WCBI of Columbus, WTOK-TV out of Meridian, The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal of Tupelo, The Meridian Star, the Mississippi Radio News Network, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi Public Broadcasting and Choctaw Productions.
