A Neshoba County man remains in jail on drug charges following the accidental discharge of a pistol that sent another man to Neshoba General with a neck wound.

Brandon Burton, 22, of 110090 Road 549 was charged with possession of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Sheriff Eric Clark said Barton was arrested after deputies were dispatched to his residence on County Road 549 just outside the city limits on the east side of town around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, after gunshots were reported.

Clark said that Barton and the victim were found sitting in a Chrysler 300 in the yard.

The victim was transported to Neshoba General by EMS. Clark said that Barton was showing his friend the gun, which both believed to be unloaded after shooting the night before, when the gun accidentally went off.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.

Clark said that they found felony amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine in the vehicle as well as paraphernalia.

Clark said that Barton remains in the Neshoba County Jail on a $30,600 bond.
