A Neshoba County man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his brother with a modified shotgun last week following a family dispute in the Good Hope community.

Bryant Grays, 35, of 10410 Road 428 in Union, faces one count of attempted murder, as well as shooting into an occupied dwelling, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said Grays was arrested and charged after shooting his middle-aged brother, who was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, in the upper leg with a sawed-off, 20-gauge shotgun.

Clark said deputies were responding to a disturbance call on County Road 428 when they received a report of shots fired and a male victim being struck.

"Deputies were on scene within minutes and found a man armed with a shotgun in the driveway next to a vehicle parked in the yard," Clark said. "The armed gunman was taken into custody without incident."

Upon entering the residence, deputies found the victim, a middle-aged male, in a back bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg area.

"The victim was using a belt as a tourniquet as deputies worked to tighten the belt to help slow the bleeding," Clark said.

Neshoba EMS responded and provided medical attention to the patient.

Upon questioning, deputies learned from the victim and other family members that three shots were fired.

Clark added that subsequent investigation revealed that Grays fired two shots inside the house, then another one after he exited the house.

"A third shot from the yard went through a window of the kids' room," Clark said.

Investigators found what appears to be methamphetamine in Grays' possession, Clark said.
