A Morton man was arrested with 130 grams of marijuana and cited for multiple driving infractions after being pulled over earlier this month.

The man, Shilombish John, 22, 1304 South Oswald Road, Morton, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, careless driving, no proof of insurance and driving under a suspended license, Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said.

The passenger, Daylen Jaderious Perkins, 18, 166 Rolling Hills Circle, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, Clark said.

Deputies first encountered the pair when they were pulled over in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Highway 16 West at 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 6.

Deputies detected the strong smell of marijuana and noticed Perkins, the passenger, was fidgeting with something underneath his shirt.

Deputies quickly discovered it was a large bag of marijuana. A further search of the vehicle revealed five smaller bags of marijuana in the glove compartment and paraphernalia, such as scales and baggies.

In all, deputies discovered more than 130 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Clark said Perkins was out on bond as one of seven people arrested in a rash of burglaries in January of this year. He said the subsequent felony arrest could lead to Perkin’s being denied bond.
