A Kilmichael man was arrested and charged with about a half pound of weed and dealing at a safety checkpoint Sunday evening, the authorities said.
Aaron Dane Purnell, 35, 518 Highway 413, Kilmichael, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance.
Sheriff Eric Clark said that Purnell was arrested by deputies at a safety checkpoint on Highway 16 west, near the city limits early in the morning of Sunday, June 20. Deputies encountered a white Hyundai Sonata driven by Purnell.
Clark said that Purnell was driving with a suspended license and “a significant amount of marijuana.”
Clark said that the drugs could go for between $1,200 and $1,500 on the street
