Local law enforcement officials are looking at $360,000 in state funds earmarked for cameras for the Sheriff’s office and vehicles for the Police Department, officials say.

Sen. Jenifer Branning, a Republican from Philadelphia said she and Rep. Scott Bounds, a Republican from Philadelphia, were happy that funds for local law enforcement were included in House Bill 603, which is headed to Governor Tate Reeves's desk for singing.

“Rep. Bounds and I are pleased to assist the Neshoba County Sheriff with $200,000 for equipment and the Philadelphia Police Department with $160,000 for new patrol cars in this legislative session,” Branning said. “We are thrilled to support our local law enforcement agencies as they work to keep our community safe.”

Sheriff Eric Clark said his department would spend the money on onboard computers and cameras for their vehicles. Clark said the legislature was “gracious” to grant his office that money and thanked local legislatures for keeping his office in mind during the legislative process.

“This is much needed,’ Clark said. “This will help us keep our heads above water.”

Police Chief Eric Lyons said his department would be able to buy four new vehicles.
