Lavinia Mooney Nowell was born in Neshoba County on March 5, 1934, to Herbert Guy Mooney, Sr. and Lina B Mooney. She lived her entire life in Philadelphia, Neshoba County. On May 13, 2024, Lavinia peacefully departed her earthly home for a better place in heaven, where she is reunited with family who passed before her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters, Anita Rahaim and Barbara Bounds, her brothers, Herbert Guy Mooney, Jr., John Mooney and James Mooney and an infant brother.

Lavinia was a kind, compassionate and loving wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Barney, her children Guy (LoLo), Greg (Brenda) and daughter/best friend, Karen McKay (Mark), along with six grandchildren, Ryan McKay (Candace), Misty McKay, Judson Nowell (Sara), Sydney Collins (Toby), Natalie Scruggs (Matthew), Allen Nowell, and eleven great grandchildren, Reese McKay, Kennedy McKay, Laney Turner, Frances Ellen Nowell, Cash Nowell, Lyon Nowell, Sophie Nowell, Laurali Collins, Truman Collins, Tac Scruggs, and Smith Scruggs. The void she leaves in their lives will never be filled ... she dearly loved her family.

Lavinia was a devoted believer in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where she was a member of Genesis Sunday School Class.

She was faithful to attend every event in which her children and family participated. Along with her love for family, Lavinia loved her church and church family, flowers, anything pink, lipstick, dressing up, a spotless house, late night shopping trips, eating out-especially "Friday Family Lunch" with Barney and her children ... all of these "loves" made her the consummate Southern lady.

The Lord graciously granted Lavinia a long and blessed life. Her family is blessed and thankful.

Pallbearers were Ryan McKay, Judson Nowell, Allen Nowell, Mark Bounds, Bruce Bounds, Scott Bounds, Brad Bounds, Patrick Mooney, Toby Collins and Matthew Scruggs.
