Lady Rebels' softball season comes to an end in tourney

The Leake Academy girls had a busy end to their season last week.

The Lady Rebels played four games in the North 5A Tournament last week and finished fourth to qualify for the Class 5A state tournament.

Leake then lost 4-1 to Parkland and 6-3 to Simpson to see their season come to an end.

The Lady Rebels finish the season with a 12-14 record.

Simpson 6, Leake 3

The Lady Rebels saw their season come to an end on Saturday at the hands of rival Simpson in the Class 5A State Tournament.

Leake scored three in the third on a 3-run home run by Lilly McDonald while Simpson answered with four in the bottom of the inning. Simpson added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Leake had six hits but committed four errors. Marleigh Myers, Raylee Quick,

Brealynn Malone, Alivia Gill and Meredith Files each had singles. Kylee Boykin walked three times and scored a run.

Boykin started in the circle and pitched four innings, giving up five runs with only one earned three hits and two walks. Quick pitched the last two innings and gave up one run on two hits.

Parklane 4, Leake 1

The Lady Rebels dropped a tough three-run decision to the Lady Pioneers on Saturday to open the Class 5A Tournament.

Parklane scored one in the first and fifth and finished with two in the sixth. Leake scored its run in the fifth.

Leake had just two hits, singles by Lilly McDonald and Marleigh Myers.

Raylee Quick started in the circle and pitched all six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and five walks.

Simpson 17, Leake 2

The Lady Cougars eliminated the Lady Rebels from the North 5A Tournament on Tuesday.

Leake scored one in the first and fifth while Simpson scored five in the first, two in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth.

Leake had four hits but committed seven errors and walked five.

Lilly McDonald was 2-for-2 with a triple, home run and two runs scored while Marliegh Myers singled and drove in a run.

Leake 6, Magnolia Heights 3

The Lady Rebels built a five-run lead and held on to oust the host Lady Chiefs on Monday in an elimination game.

Leake scored two in the first, one in the third and three in the fourth.

Leake had 10 hits as Lilly McDonald was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Marleigh Myers was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBIs while Raylee Quick was 2-for-4. Brealynn Malone was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Meredith Files was 2-for-4 with a double.

Kylee Boykin started on the mound and pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three to pick up the win. Quick got the last two outs to pick up the save.

Leake 11, Starkville 1

The Lady Rebels took advantage of eight errors and five walks as they took a 10-run win over the Lady Volunteers in the loser’s bracket on Monday.

After three scoreless innings, Leake scored six in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Leake had just seven hits in the contest. Meredith Files doubles, scored twice and had two RBIs while Kylee Boykin and Raylee Quick each doubled. Maggie Winstead also scored twice while Zoe Shepard singled and drove in two runs.

Quick got the win on the mound, giving up one run on six hits and a walk while striking out three.

Bayou 5, Leake 2

The Lady Colts used a three-run third inning to take a win over the Lady Rebels on Monday in the opening round of the North 5A Tournament.

Leake scored one in the second and fourth while Bayou scored three in the third, one in the fourth and sixth.

Leake had five hits and committed three errors. Marleigh Myers and Kylee Boykin were each 2-for-4 while Meredith Files also doubled.

Boykin pitched all six innings and gave up five runs with only two earned as she gave up seven hits and a walk.
