A huge thank you to HARDY, otherwise known as Michael Hardy, who made a generous donation to the local Open Arms Ministry! Hardy donated the net profits from T-shirt sales at the Neshoba County Fair where he was a featured performer. The check was written in the amount of $5,923.00 which will help tremendously in the Open Arms Ministry during these difficult times. Hardy said he was “happy to do something for his hometown.” He really gave back to our community.

A fun event was held at East Philadelphia Baptist Church on Monday evening, August 23 in the church gym.  A “Gather and Graze” charcuterie workshop was presented by Tarrah Boykin to a large group of excited ladies.

Tarrah is the owner of “The 3 Little Pigs Charcuterie.” She loves to explore different kinds of food as well as different methods of preparing it and share with her friends and loved ones. This is why she loves charcuterie boards and the room they give to play with different flavors and textures.  She also enjoys making them beautiful since we eat with our eyes first. After watching and listening to Tarrah make a board, each person created her own board using a wide variety of ingredients available.  She answered questions and made suggestions. Everyone was happily busy.

Although charcuterie boards are a new trend sweeping America, they actually originated in 15th century France. Shops called charcuteries sold smoked meats, such as ham, sausage, bacon, and other pork selections. They were quite popular with customers who were happy to buy food that was already cooked. Pork was the most frequently used meat because it lent itself to being smoked and preserved.

Today boards are created from a variety of meats, cheese, crackers, fruit, nuts, and other tasty items. They have become works of art with the food beautifully arranged.   Tarrah defines grazing as having small bites of food available at all times at our fingertips. Charcuterie boards fit this description perfectly.

At the end of the workshop, each participant had a beautiful board to take home. They were almost too pretty to eat!

Live out Love! “Let us love one another for love comes from God.” 1 John 4:7. The First United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry put this into action on Wednesday after their lesson when they made signs for Mary Mosley Pickering who just returned home on Tuesday after a stay in Blair E. Batson Hospital. Their teachers organized a parade for Mary Mo led by two fire trucks flashing red lights and sirens blaring followed by a sheriff's car with its siren blasting and a caravan of parents and friends with children holding up signs from the windows and balloons floating outside of windows. It was a joyful procession filled with the sounds of loving voices calling out to Mary Mosley who watched and waved from her front porch with her brother, Jackson, and her mother, Jessica Pickering.

Her parents, Blake and Jessica Long Pickering have been on hospital duty 24/7 since their daughter was admitted.  Her grandparents and aunt have also been giving their support as well as other members of the family. Prayers continue to be offered for her recovery and strength and comfort for her family.  She is a precious little child who has been very brave during her ordeal. God bless her and keep her.
