It was another magical performance by Sofia Satterfield in the Decatur City Dance presentation of  “Land of Sweets” in Georgia.

This is one of the four realms from “The Nutcracker” ballet with a few dances from “Land of Snow.”

She is the 14-year-old daughter of Sarah Benson Satterfield, a former resident of Philadelphia. Her grandparents, Bob and Lynn Holland Benson, were, as usual, enjoying the magic.

Sofia performed in “Snowflakes,” “Snow Tableau,” and “Candy Canes.”  She looked ethereal as she danced in her snowflake costume.

Sofia is a member of the Decatur City Dance Nexus Premier Company and the Nexus Contemporary Company.

Philadelphia Elementary School students found a treat box or bag on each student’s desk on Halloween. They were so surprised and delighted to receive them. The smiles on their faces showed their gratitude. The treats were donated by Sharon Houston of Wonderful Creations. The school is thankful for the support of our former Tornadoes who choose to give back to their alma mater. Thank you!!

The Rotary Club of Philadelphia honored three of our local high school students as the October 2023 Students of the Month at last Monday’s meeting.  Certificates were awarded by Student of the Month Chairman Robert Lovern to Rayleigh Parkinson, Philadelphia High School; Graciana Alexander, Neshoba Central High School; and Delaiah Billy, Choctaw Central High School.

On a fun note, Robert Lovern presented Tim Moore with a “certificate” in recognition of being the only current Rotarian who was a Rotary Club Student of the Month (in 1994).

The club also made two donations during the meeting with proceeds from the annual Pancake Supper.

Patrice Turner, representing Open Arms, was presented with a check for $4,000 and an additional $2,000 which was a grant from Rotary District 6820.

B.J. Morrow accepted a check for $4,800 on behalf of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Park Commission which will be used to help purchase security cameras at Northside Park.

The club gave a huge THANK YOU to all of the sponsors and everyone who purchased a plate during the pancake supper fundraiser!

The recent Herman’s Hermits concert at the Ellis was filled with longtime fans and entertained the audience with their music. Starring Peter Noone who is a member of the original group along with Barry Whitwam who has been the drummer since 1963 entertained the audience with their retro music. Lucky Janet Perry caught a T-shirt and got it signed!
