Investigators looking into theft ring

More charges are expected in a city theft ring after a man and a woman were arrested this month.

The man, Darius Burkes, 29, 230 Rea Street, was arrested and charged with petty larceny and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

The woman, Danna R. Faircloth, 38, 257 Cora Street, was arrested and charged with false pretense.

Police Chief Eric Lyons said the pair have been arrested in connection with a theft reported on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Lyons said this is just one of a series of thefts reported throughout October that they believe the pair to be involved in.

Investigation into the theft found Burkes to be responsible for taking the items and Faircloth pawning some of the stolen items, Lyons said. Several stolen items have been reported from city residents including lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, shop vacs, and hand tools.

“Most of the items have been recovered and returned to owners,” Lyons said.

Burkes was arrested near his home on Rea Street on Thursday, Nov. 2, while Faircloth was picked up at a residence on Cora Street on Friday, Nov. 3.

He noted investigators are still sorting details and expect further charges to come as the investigation cotninues.
