Inmate death in Neshoba jail under investigation

The death of an inmate at the Neshoba County Detention Facility  Sunday night is being investigated, the authorities aid.

The Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office is cooperating with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI) regarding in the incident reported after 11 p.m., Sheriff Eric Clark said in a release early Monday morning. 

Neshoba EMS was dispatched to a medical call at the jail, Clark said.

“Details are limited at this time due to an active investigation, the death is believed to be the result of a medical issue, and foul play is not suspected,” he said. “The identity of the inmate is not being released at this time due to pending next of kin notifications.”

The Sheriff went on to say, “We are deeply saddened by this as we always try to provide the best care we can for our inmates. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the inmate's family.”

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and Neshoba County Medical Examiner’s Office were both requested and are leading the investigation as part of standard procedures in this matter, Clark said.
