A live Nativity, Mr. and Mrs. Clause, and food trucks are all part of a Hometown Christmas celebration set for December downtown.

The family-friendly event is set for Dec. 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

At the centerpiece of the celebration is a 26-foot Christmas tree for the court square and a fundraising effort to make Philadelphia a holiday destination for decorations.

A newly formed Main Street Christmas Committee is trying to raise $35,000 and so far many businesses and individuals have contributed, including the county of Neshoba and the Board of Supervisors.

A GoFundMe page set up for the celebration says:

“We are excited about bringing a Hometown Christmas event to Neshoba County and Philadelphia, MS, beginning December 1, 2023! However, this event is not possible without donations and sponsors like YOU! Any amount of support that you can send will be greatly appreciated, as Christmas magic sometimes takes a little hard work from individuals and businesses. We ask you to please consider helping us bring this magic to Neshoba County and Philadelphia for our families to enjoy and look forward to each year!”

The Neshoba County Republican Women are selling large poinsettias to raise money for the Hometown Christmas celebration. “All proceeds will be used for decorating our town for the Christmas holidays,” they said.

The red poinsettias are $25 each with a goal of 400 purchased by Sept. 30. Checks may be mailed to the NC Republican Women at 414 A Columbus Avenue, Philadelphia, MS 39350.
