Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Mike Sims officiating.   Burial followed in the Coy Community Cemetery. 

Mrs. Luke was a native of Noxubee County and a longtime resident of the Coy Community in Kemper County for most of her life. She was employed with Northern Electric in Dekalb for several years; and then went to work for Kemper County Schools for nineteen years. Alongside of her career she was also a cotton and cattle farmer, and most importantly, a homemaker. Hilda was a member of Coy Community Church.  She loved God, her husband, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her church family.   

Survivors include her daughters; Linda (Greg) McKee and Joy Luke; her sons, Ray (Cyndi) Luke and Mark (Brenda) Luke; her daughter-in-law, Lynda Luke; six grandchildren, Amber (Lee) Robertson, Clark (Mae) Luke, Lauren (Matt) Livingston, Corey (Libby) Luke, Benjamin (Jordan) Luke and Meredith(Evan)Humphries; 11 great-grandchildren, Maddox Robertson, Ivey Kate Robertson, Jack Luke, Thomas Luke, Tristan Luke, Liz Lyle Humphries, Adeline Humphries, Whitt Luke, Peter Luke, Riley Livingston and Layla Livingston; sister, Frances Bourgeois; brothers, JW Vernon and David Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benford Luke; son, Bobby Luke; granddaughter, Paige Kathleen Luke; parents, Webb and Mabel Vernon; brothers, Raymond Vernon and Ira "Bud" Vernon; sisters, Ann VanDevender and Joyce Lindley.
