FEBRUARY 14, 1941
G.B. Smith was elected President of the Arlington Boys’ 4-H Club at a meeting. Other officers named were: Vice-President, Irby J. Pope; Secretary-Treasurer, Harris Agent; Reporter, Carol Nowell. After the election, the boys entered a dairy judging contest in a series in Hoard’s Dairy Magazine. Assistant County Agent J.F. Buchanan was present at the meeting.

FEBRUARY 8, 1951
“Miss Rural Electrification 1951” is Peggy Anne Brent, 17-year-old Bogue Chitto High School girl, entry of the Miss. REA Associations in the national beauty contest held in Cleveland. Miss Brent is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brent, of Lincoln County, a member of the Magnolia Electric Power Association.
FEBRUARY 9, 1961
Rct. Arthur C. Sharp, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sharp of the Spring Hill Community is in training with the 9th AA Gun Bn. at Fort Bliss, Texas. Young Sharp had been employed with the W.W. Woolworth Store in Meridian for some time and was transferred to the new Woolworth Store in Mobile, Alabama as assistant manager for a short time before being called into service.
FEBRUARY 11, 1971
Kathy Morris, Scott County’s Junior Miss and a former resident of Philadelphia, was crowned the state’s new Junior Miss. Miss Morris the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lovelle Morris. She is a senior at Forest High School, and after graduation she will attend Mississippi College where she plans to major in speech, one of her major interests.
Beth Pilgrim of Philadelphia, was named to the Dean’s List at Clarke College, in Newton, Mississippi. To be named to the Dean’s List at Clarke, a student must maintain a grade point average of 2.30-2.00. She is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. Herman Pilgrim of Philadelphia.

Ted Pope, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dorman Pope of Philadelphia, was named Mr. East Central Junior College in elections held on ECJC campus. Vickie Hamrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hamrick of Hickory, was named Miss East Central.

As the U.S. Army Military Affiliate Radio System contact in Vicksburg, Dot Hartzog helps servicemen and their families a little closer. Hartzog, an electronics technician at the Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District, operates the MARS Center in addition to her regular work in the district radio room.

The Neshoba Central Future Farmers of America dreed speaker recently won third place at the state contest. Accepting the award is Lacy Caples, and the advisor is Rusty Suttles.

State Senator Giles Ward, was named the Conservation Legislator of the Year, while Jerry Smith, Neshoba County Soil and Water District Chairman, received the Outstanding District Commissioner of the Year Award.
