JANUARY 24, 1941

The Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce unanimously elected Mr. Richard Molpus as Secretary of that body on Monday, to serve for the first six months ensuing term. Mr. Molpus will make a splendid Secretary. He is Secretary-Treasurer of the Henderson-Molpus Lbr. Co.    

JANUARY 25, 1951

Rev. James V. Cobb, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of Philadelphia, has turned in his resignation to accept the pastorage of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Meridian. The resignation will take place in mid-February. Cobb has been with the local church for over eight years. 

JANUARY 26, 1961

Sergeant O.J. Smith, recruiting officer for the U.S. Army and Air Force, was signally honored with Lieutenant General John Reed Hodge recognizing Sgt. Smith as an ace recruiter. Sgt. Smith was one of two recruiters so recognized in the state, Sgt. L.B. Lewis of Clarksdale being the other.

JANUARY 28, 1971

Maurice Tisdale of US Electrical Motors, Inc. presents Jeanne Williams, TAP chairman for the March of Dimes, with a check for $25.00 to kick off the 1971 fundraising campaign. The people present are; Mickey Cumberland, Jenny Lynn Ethridge, Sellers Cole, and Randy Thrash.  

JANUARY 22, 1981

Five Neshoba Central High School Thespians were recognized at the recent State Thespian Convention at the University of Southern Mississippi. The children are; Shawn Henry, Connie Savell, Melissa Isom, Keith Copeland, and Randy Thrash.

The new Ms. Arlington Fire Department Jerry Drury, is pictured with last year’s queen Sherriel Breazeale, and junior queen Clint Marshall.

Rotary Club students for the month of January are; Dewey Stovall of Neshoba Central and Wendy Breland of Philadelphia High School. Max Loper presented the awards.

Philadelphia High School’s Jeff Kilgore (10) gives thanks after scoring a goal during the Tornadoes’ 6-2 soccer win over Neshoba Central. Philly travels to Corinth for the first round of the state playoffs on Saturday.

Penny Chiasson, RN, has received the Connecticut League for Nursing's Peer Recognition Award. Chiassson, a native of Philadelphia, is currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Central Connecticut State University.

JANUARY 26, 2011

Mississippi State University Athletic Director Scott Stricklin was a special guest at the Philadelphia Rotary Club where he posed with the Rotarians and the coveted Egg Bowl trophy. The people present are; Robert Lovern, who introduced Stricklin, Clara Reynolds, the Rotary President, and Scott Stricklin. The Egg Bowl is the annual college football rivalry between MSU and the Ole Miss Rebels. State won this year with the score of 31-23.
