OCTOBER 4, 1940

Hugh S. Mason of the Neshoba County Housing Authority was named a member of the executive committee of the Mississippi  Association of Housing Officials which was organized at Laurel when representatives from Mississippi’s eleven municipal and thirty three county housing authorities met.

OCTOBER 6, 1950

Miss Jacqueline Curry, member of the Freshman Class at the University of Mississippi has been pledged to Delta Gamma Sorority at the state school. Miss Curry, a graduate of the local high school, class of 1950, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil R. Curry. 

OCTOBER 6, 1960

Miss Linda Dansby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Dansby, has been selected by the football team of Philadelphia High school to reign as Homecoming Queen when the Tornado meets Kosciusko at Harpole Field. Miss Dansby is now serving her second year as cheerleader and as Secretary-treasurer of the student council. 

OCTOBER 1, 1970

Halfback Tom Turner of the Philadelphia High School Tornadoes receives a 32 yard pass from quarterback Del Tichnell in the game Friday night against Carthage. The Tornadoes defeated Carthage 27-0.

OCTOBER 2, 1980

Lt. Col. Robert G. (Bobby) Posey of Philadelphia is the recipient of the Army’s Meritorious Service Medal. The award cited him for meritorious service while serving as Director of Material, Headquarters and headquarters Company, 114th Support Group, Mississippi Army National Guard in Hattiesburg. 

OCTOBER 3, 1990

Mike Skinner received a watch, a pin, and a certificate for successfully passing a test administered by Chevrolet. This is the seventh year that he has been certified. 

OCTOBER 4, 2000

The Philadelphia Business and Professional Women’s Club has announced that Jean T. Fulton is its 2000 Woman of Achievement. 

OCTOBER 6, 2010

The Rotary Students of the month are Cortney Spears, from Neshoba Central High School and Shakira Young, from Philadelphia High School.
