Under wartime conditions, when new home construction has been sharply curtailed by material shortages and when war housing is necessarily reserved for occupancy by the most essential war workers, the maintenance of a sound financing system for older home properties has become increasingly important, W.T. Pate, state director of the Federal Housing Administration, said today.

Mrs. W.M. Spivey, chairman of the Special Activities committee, announces that her committee will start Monday morning, June 19th, to make a house-to-house canvass of the city to sell "E" bonds.

June 10, 1954

For the past two weeks several hundred children of this city and adjacent communities have been devoting one-half day to the study of the Bible, learning craft work, and enjoying the fine fellowship that youngsters can display in the environment of their particular church.

The Board of Supervisors in regular session Wednesday, voted unanimously to call for an election to be held August 24th for the purpose of determining whether the people want to increase hospital facilities of the Neshoba County Hospital. 

June 11, 1964

Bids will be received by the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors for blacktopping 5.695 miles of the Deemer and Beat Line road, it was announced this week by Beat One Supervisor Carl J. DeWeese.

Five new school district representatives were added to the Neshoba Central Booster Club at the meeting on June 2. They were Mrs. L. Gray, Mrs. Lorainne Jackson, Mrs. A.J. Chaney, Mrs. Oden White and Mrs. Charles R. Cooksey.

Richard Morrow Nowell of Philadelphia was among 91 graduates who received the doctor of medicine degree at the 17th annual University of Mississippi Medical Center commencement.

The Philadelphia Rotary Club's annual benefit on June 9 will consist of skeet shooting, including a demonstration by two experts, and a pancake supper.

Construction of a proposed $100,000 addition to the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Library was expected to begin in September, said library Director Courtney Tannehill.

The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Christopher Stafford Smith has been named a Collegiate Scholastic All-American. 

June 11, 2004

Thirty-four people, including two juveniles and three teenagers, were arrested last week in what the authorities described as the biggest and most significant street-level drug roundup ever in Neshoba County.

A $300,000 project by Philadelphia Utilities to improve water quality and fire protection in the northwestern section of the city is near completion except for seeding and grassing.

When classes resume in August, both the city and county schools will implement more of the new Common Core State Standards.
