March 3, 1944

Francis Lundy, a Navy V-12 Trainee at Millsaps College, was elected president of the Millsaps Student Body in a recent election held on the campus. This title is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a student in this college.

A. D. Doggett, chairman of Neshoba's successful Fourth War Loan drive, which closed recently, said last week that he was especially grateful for the splendid cooperation shown by the business and professional men and women, and citizens in general, in the City of Philadelphia.

March 4, 1954

Good Hope Baptist church will start full time services Sunday March 7th. Beginning with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and preaching service at 11 a.m. Rev. Reginald Stokes is the pastor and invites everyone to attend.

Neshoba County will have the privilege of holding the first Dairy Festival Week in Mississippi. Businessmen, Dairymen and agricultural workers are cooperating in a very enthusiastic program of events beginning March 8th and ending on March 13th.

     March 5, 1964    

The Neshoba County School Board has requested the Board of Supervisors to issue negotiable notes in the amount of $40,000 for the purpose of making repairs, alterations, and additions to the county school buildings and to purchase heating plants, fixtures, and equipment, and to purchase land for recreational and athletic purposes.

Three popular coffee spots in Philadelphia will contribute proceeds from the sale of coffee to the American Red Cross Drive next week, it was announced by Albert Latting, Red Cross Fund Chairman. 

March 7, 1974

Lamar G. Salter, administrator of the Neshoba County General Hospital, has offered four alternate proposals for financing a 60-bed, $600,000 expansion to the hospital. 

A change in the law now allows taxpayers to designate part of their tax liability to the political party of their choice in the next presidential election, Richard J. Stakem Jr., Internal Revenue Service district director for Mississippi said today.

March 8, 1984

The first Choctaw Tribe graduates from the new Vocational Education Program were presented with certificates at a dinner banquet Thursday. 

The Philadelphia mayor and board of aldermen Tuesday night appointed David Vowell to a five-year term on the Park Commission.

March 2, 1994  

James T. Boone, president and chief executive officer of Grenada Sunburst System Corporation, Grenada, Miss. has announced that Grenada Sunburst and its Mississippi banking subsidiary, Sunburst Bank, have complete the purchase of the banking operation of Eastover Bank for Savings.

The Neshoba County Board of Supervisors gave its approval Monday afternoon for the county hospital to borrow up to $700,000 to meet current obligations.

March 4, 2004

An ongoing effort to restore a storm-damaged Civil War monument on the courthouse grounds was officially endorsed by the Board of Supervisors this week. 

A grand opening ceremony will be held Sunday, giving the public a peek at the new wing of the recently completed Neshoba County Nursing Home that added more beds and created jobs.

March 5, 2014

Nearly 500 people are expected to be hired following the Mid-Mississippi Job Fair which drew almost 1,000 job seekers to Neshoba County Coliseum on Thursday. The job fair, which was part of the Governor's Job Fair Network, was free to the public.
