Pvt. Moncreath Kennedy has been attached to the Medical Detachment of an Engineer Battalion at Camp Shelby, and writes that he "likes the Medicos okeh." He adds: "The Democrat really helps to pass the time away and kindly brings me back home in a way - keep the good work going."
An appeal was made Saturday by Mayor W. Marshall Prince to Congressman Arthur Winstead to use his influence with the Fuel Administrator in Washington in an effort to relieve the critical Butane gas shortage in this city and nearby area, which is serviced by the Lott Furniture Company of this city.

Mayor Norman A. Johnson Jr. has proclaimed next Friday, January 29, as Mothers' March on Polio Day in Philadelphia. Text of the Mayor's proclamation follows. Whereas, Friday, January 29, has been designated as the date for the Mothers' March on Polio, which will climax the 1954 March of Dimes.
An impressive installation service was held Thursday evening Jan. 14th in the Masonic Hall for officers of Philadelphia Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star in the presence of a large group of members and visitors. The chapter was opened by the retiring Worthy Matron Mrs. Myrtis Richardson and Worthy Patron.

Tom Wallace Cox has been named county engineer by the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors, succeeding L. A. Conerly of Laurel. Mr. Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cox of the Sandtown community in Neshoba County, is a graduate of Mississippi State University, and has offices on the ground floor of the courthouse.

A bill which includes authorization of the proposed $45 million Edinburg Reservoir in Neshoba County is expected to reach President Nixon's desk the second week in February.

An explosion early Sunday at Williamsville, believed to have been fused by dynamite, was under investigations by the Neshoba County Sheriff's Department.

A quick money scheme that tells how to turn $1,500 into $12,000 that has "spread like wildfire" in the Neshoba County area, has been declared illegal.
Petyon Manning, the middle son of Archie and Olivian Manning, verbally committed to Tennessee on Tuesday. Peyton is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cooper Williams of Philadelphia.

Tutoring is making a difference at Westside Community Center through the Neshoba Youth Coalition. More than 100 students in kindergarten through sixth grade have been reached through a mentoring program that places a strong emphasis on summer tutoring.
