Neshoba County will be well represented, officially and otherwise, in the colorful horse-drawn carriage inaugural ceremony at Jackson next Tuesday when Gov.-Elect Thomas L. Bailey will take the solemn oath of office and become Mississippi's chief executive for the next four years.
Ten counties in Mississippi with the best E bond-buying records will receive coveted E-Bond Pennant awards at the end of the Fourth War Loan drive, A. D. Doggett, War Loan drive Chairman for Neshoba County, has been notified.
January 14, 1954
Representatives of the Interior department were in the city last week to make a survey of private and county-owned hospital facilities looking toward closing of the Indian Hospital here.
The Board of Trustees of the Neshoba County Hospital met with the board of supervisors Wednesday afternoon in regard to taking a no-cost lease on the Choctaw Indian hospital for a period of two to six months.

A donkey basketball game, sponsored by the Philadelphia High Athletic Booster Club, will be played in the high school gym on Thursday night, Jan. 23, it was announced this week. Players who ride the donkeys include five high school boys.

Constables Leon Myers and Wilson (Bud) Ladd have made six raids recently in which several persons were charged with violation of the prohibition laws.
Philadelphia property owners will get a break in fire insurance rates thanks to a change in the city's protection classification by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.

Illinois Central Gulf Railroad has announced an agreement to sell more than 700 miles of its tracks in east Mississippi, including those running through Philadelphia and Union, to a Pittsburgh, PA company.
Mrs. Herman Alford has been selected the 1984 Club Woman of the Year by the Philadelphia Womans Club. Mrs. Alford has been a club member since 1948.

James H. Vance of the Neshoba Community has been named Neshoba County Tree Farmer of the Year for 1993. He was recently recognized by the Neshoba County Forestry Association for his dedication to maximizing production on his forested property.

Some county employees began moving back into the newly-renovated Neshoba County Courthouse this week after being gone for more than a year.
A note of apology accompanying several items recovered last week from a church burglary has been sent to the state crime lab for analysis, the authorities said. The burglary, took place at First United Methodist Church.

The city of Philadelphia in fiscal 2013 saw a sixth consecutive year of expenditures outpacing revenues, this time much higher than expected, and annual audit shows.
The old Booker T. Washington gym remains in a state of disarray despite a commitment from Mississippi Action for Progress to make improvements as part of its lease agreement, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen were told last week.
