October 8, 1943
The Arlington community through the untiring efforts of its patriotic citizens, went considerably over its quota of $33,000 in bond sales during the recent Third War Loan Drive. A special committee conducted a house-to-house campaign, bringing the total sales to more than $45,000, maturity value.
About seven employees of the A. DeWeese Lumber Company, all are buying war bonds on the regular payroll plan and all purchased their share of bonds during the Third War Loan.
October 8, 1953
Sheriff Madison Spears and his deputies teamed up here last Saturday morning with two Federal revenue agents and seized four barrels of corn mash and a moonshine liquor still. The "still hunt" was conducted about eight miles sough of Philadelphia in the Mt. Olive community.
A big homecoming welcome was staged at the courthouse Friday afternoon for Sgt. John T. Harbour, Jr. and Corporal Jas. D. Spears, two ex-Korean prisoners of war who spent a combined total of 56 months in Communist captivity.
October 10, 1963
A new industry with a payroll of over $2,000,000 this year opened in Neshoba County just a few weeks ago, but will have to operate only about four more weeks to reach its peak for this season.
A disappointing audience of less than 30 was present at the Democratic meeting at the courthouse Tuesday night of this week. Three speakers were present and told the audience "that the Mississippi Democrats should do everything possible to stamp out the Republican Party now and forever in this state."

Neshoba County voters will have an opportunity Tuesday for the first time since the mid-1930s, to vote on whether beer and wine will be legalized here or remain illegal.
Lamar G. Salter, administrator of Neshoba County General Hospital, confirmed Wednesday that he had requested the hospital's Board of Trustees to release him from his contract effective Nov. 30, 1973.

Rep. G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery said today that arrangements have been worked out to provide kidney dialysis treatments to non-Indian patients at the Choctaw Indian Hospital. The Congressman said that due to the help of officials on the MS Choctaw Indian reservation, four non-Indian patients will no longer have to travel to Meridian three times a week to receive treatment on dialysis machines.

Soap opera star Anthony Herrera was in Philadelphia Tuesday to promote the A. R. Gurnery play, "Love Letters," in which he is the leading male character. The Philadelphia Neshoba County Arts Council is sponsoring the play which will be performed in the Philadelphia High School auditorium.

Philadelphia native Mark Duncan will take the helm as District Attorney on Nov. 1 - two months earlier than expected - after Ken Turner resigned to enter private law practice in Jackson.

Longtime Philadelphia businessman Steve Wilkerson will be honored Monday as Philadelphia and Neshoba County's Citizen of the Year for 2013. He will receive the award during the annual banquet of the Community Development Partnership.
The historic log cabin in Northside Park, which was built in 1933 to house the public library, officially reopened Tuesday after it was destroyed in a EF-5 tornado in 2011.
