Two men from the Meridian area were arrested for allegedly having crystal meth and heroin during a traffic stop last week, Sheriff Eric Clark said.

The driver, Ronald David Baggett, 51, 257 Fairchild Road, Meridian, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of paraphernalia, and one count of DUI.

The passenger in the car was identified as Kenneth Wade Rogers, 54, 7014 Center Hill Road, Bailey, who was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of paraphernalia.

A Nehsoba County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the pair on Nov. 22 at about 6 p.m. on Road 4300 near House Grocery and the Dollar General. Baggett was driving a truck with illegal blue tinted lights in the headlights of the vehicle and along the roof inside the car, officials said.

Upon the deputy initiating blue lights, the pair pulled into the House Grocery parking lot.

Shortly after making contact, the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Baggett confessed he had recently smoked marijuana. He then gave the deputy permission to search the vehicle.

The deputy found a bag of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine in a pocket of a black leather jacket on the driver’s seat and another bag of a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin in a compartment on the roof of the vehicle near the sun visor.

Drug paraphernalia was also found in the vehicle.

Both men were arrested on the scene.
