A Neshoba County woman was arrested and charged with drugs following a traffic stop early on Oct. 21.

The woman, Denicia G. Shaffer, 38, of 205 Tiak Chitto Circle, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and contempt of court in the 1:30 a.m. stop, the authorities said.

Deputies encountered Shaffer at a roadblock on Road 149 just off of Highway 16, according to Sheriff Eric Clark.

Shaffer was driving a 1999 gold Mercury Grand Marquis and officers observed that was she “very nervous” during the stop and the vehicle smelled of marijuana, Clark said.

Clark said deputies then established that she had a warrant for contempt of court and conducted a search of the vehicle. About five grams of crystal methamphetamine were found on her person.

The investigation determined that Shaffer had just left her residence and was delivering the drugs to someone else.

Clark said further charges related to the arrest are possible.
