CDP seeks Neshoba Fair stories

Neshoba County Fairgoers have a chance to win big this year by telling a story about their favorite Fair memories.

Tim Moore, executive director of the Philadelphia-Neshoba Chamber of Commerce, said the new contest will be part of Hometown Proud Day and they are looking for a story about any kind of meaningful experience at the Neshoba County Fair, whether it is an event or a memory from childhood.

“When we do Hometown Proud Day, one thing that has been mentioned before is what happened during past Fairs,” Moore said. “During the Fair, families are sitting on porches and telling stories. That sparked the idea for this contest, so we’re doing it and we’ll see what happens.”

Moore said people interested in entering the contest must type a story at least 500 words in length and submit it to Community Development Partnership no later than July 3.

He said each story will be reviewed by a panel, and the top three finalists will be notified prior to the Fair.

“They will be asked to read their story to the audience at the Pavilion during Hometown Day on Tuesday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m.,” Moore said. “Two runner ups and the grand prize winner will be chosen during the Hometown program, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. $100 for first prize, $75 for second prize and $50 for third prize.”

Contest participants are asked to include their name, address, phone number, and email address. Stories can be personally delivered to the CDP Office (Train Depot) at 256 W Main Street in Philadelphia, mailed to the CDP Office to Tim Moore, at P.O. Box 330, or can be emailed to mooretim1975@gmail.com.
