A large amount of meth was seized about midnight Thursday after two cars were spotted racing on Highway 16 west headed into town, the authorities said.

Darrell E. Mcbeath, 36, 10711 Road 133, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in a vehicle, Neshoba County Sherif Eric Clark said.

Mcbeath also received several misdemeanors and traffic violations including careless driving, failure to yield to blue lights, a seatbelt violation and two counts of disorderly conduct.

McBeath remains in the Neshoba County Detention Center and has been denied bond. Clark said that he was denied bond because he is out on bail for drug trafficking charges in Leake County.

Terrence Cardell Boyd, 39, 11516 Road 121, a passenger, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Boyd was out on a $15,000 bond by Sunday afternoon.

The driver of a second car, Thomas Ryshun Grayson, 23, 1773 Bunk Newell Road, Meridian, was arrested and charged on several warrants for contempt of court, failure to appear in court and DUI.

Grayson remains in custody.

Clark said that the incident started at about 11 p.m. on Jan 20 when a Sheriff’s deputy saw a Buick and Chevy Impala that appeared to be racing on Highway 16 headed east toward town.

The deputy described the two vehicles as “weaving in and out” of traffic and traveling “bumper to bumper.”

The Buick, driven by McBeath, was stopped near Frog Level Road. After a search of the vehicle the deputy found a “large amount of meth” and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.

The Impala, driven by Grayson, was pulled over by the Philadelphia Police Department around Walmart.

Clark said a deputy soon arrived on the scene to assist.

Clark said they established that Grayson had outstanding warrants and made the arrest.
