Aldermen set public hearing to discuss next year’s budget

The city of Philadelphia will hold a public hearing on Aug. 29 to present the tax levy for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget.

Aldermen will hold a hearing on the budget on Sept. 5 with plans to pass the budget on Sept. 12. 

In other matters, aldermen voted to:

• Approve a motion to increase the reimbursable agreement with Allen Engineering and FAA for the flight check for the airport to $16,737.84. The motion was  approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to set a hearing date on extending MLK for Sept. 15. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a memorandum of understanding with the Mississippi Department of Finance & Administration accepting $160,000 in funding for police vehicles and authorize the City Clerk to set up a new bank account with Citizens Bank as required. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to pay APAC $929,165.60 from the Modernization Fund bank account for paving. The motion was approved unanimously.

• Approve a motion to allow a sanitation exemption at 800 Holland Ave and 804 Kosciusko Rd due to dumpster usage at 910 Posey Ave. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to accept the resignation of Brian Oubre from the Street Department. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion for Austin Gray to attend a certification training on Aug. 31 and for the city to pay for registration and travel. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to accept the resignation of Patrick Mitchell from the Police Department. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to remove Christopher Harrell and Kaliah Tubby from the reserve officer list. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to accept the lowest quote on the remodel of the new Police Department from N&S Properties LLC at $68,500. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to hire Cotton Lewis from the reserve to full-time with the Police Department as Patrolman 1st Class. The motion was approved unanimously;

• Approve a motion to reserve four hotel rooms for Aug. 8-9 in Pelham, Ala., that will be reimbursable with the Task Force Grant. The motion was approved unanimously; and,

• Approve a motion to set a budget workshop for Aug. 1. The motion was approved unanimously.
