Aldermen hold budget hearing
Philadelphia aldermen held a public hearing on the 2023-2024 budget last Tuesday.
There will not be a tax increase. The floor was opened for public comment. No one spoke.
In other matters, aldermen voted to:
• Approve a motion to pay Crain Inc. $523,291 for work on the Lagoon Erosion Repairs out of the ARPA bank account. The motion was approved unanimously.
• Approve a motion for the mayor and board registration and travel expenses to West Monroe, La., for a Mississippi Municipal League Main Street Event. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to allow a road bore for C Spire along East Myrtle. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to hire Brandon Lahr with the Police Department as a part-time/reserve officer at $16.06 per hour. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to pay Uline $4,724 for furniture to be placed in the new Police Department building out of the general fund. The motion was approved unanimously; and,
• Approve a motion to hire Jeremy Morgan with the Fire Department. The motion was approved unanimously.
The board went into executive session to discuss a business matter. No action was taken.
