A Philadelphia man was fatally injured on July 22 when the log truck he was diving left the road and struck a tree on Highway 80 near Forest, the authorities said.

Ronald “Ronny” Joyner, 48, of Philadelphia was driving on Highway 80 east in Scott County when the truck left the road and hit a tree, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesperson Andy West.

The MHP accident report says that Joyner was traveling eastbound on Highway 80 just before 2 p.m. when he left the road on the westbound shoulder and hit the tree. Joyner’s truck came to rest on the westbound shoulder facing east.

The report notes that it is unknown if Joyner was wearing a seatbelt. It also notes the vehicle’s airbag did not deploy.

The report identifies the truck as a 1994 Mack CH6.

A native of Philadelphia, Joyner was a graduate of Philadelphia High School and attended East Central and Mississippi State.

Joyner served in the U. S. Air Force for three years.  He worked as a truck driver for Triple Commer Logging.  He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Carthage.
