$800K road paving to begin in June
Nearly $800,000 in street paving is scheduled to begin in June in Philadelphia.
Aldermen approved the lowest and best bid last Tuesday, awarding the contract to Dickerson & Bowen for $789,105. APAC was the only other bidder with a higher bid of $840,015.
“We ask that you be patient with us,” said Street Department Superintendent Patrick Gray. “We will be working diligently trying to get it done.”
The streets slated for improvement are as follows:
• Ward 1 — Magnolia St. from Pecan Ave.—Maple Ave., Dogwood Ln. from Maple Ave.—Woodland Hills Dr., and Evergreen Ave. from Hwy 16 — Powell St.
• Ward 2 — Airpark Dr. from Saint Francis Dr.—113 Airpark, Cook St. from State Ave.—Henley Ave., Henley Ave. from Cook St.—Jefferson St., and Walton Ave. from Hwy 16—Golf Course Rd.
• Ward 3— Cooper Williams Dr. from Hwy 15—3-way stop, Williamsville Dr. from 3-way stop—Hwy 15, Salter Ave. from Main St.—Ingram St., Byrd Ave. from Range Ave.—Main St., Range Ave. from Byrd Ave.—Weyerhaeuser St., Center Ave. from Line St.—Hospital Rd., and Chestnut St. from Lewis Ave.—Gum St.
• Ward 4— Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. from Ivy St.—railroad track, Bennet St. from Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., — Lewis Ave., Christine Ave. from S Donald Ave.—dead end, and Kayla Ave. from S Donald Ave.— Christine St.
In other business, aldermen voted to:
• Approve a motion to reappoint Harold Coburn to the school board. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to accept the resignation of Tanner Boler from the Street Department effective March 19. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to approve the rezoning of 207 Barrier Ave from R1 to R3. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to approve C-Spire road bores from fiber to home along the following roads: Water Ave., Walnut St., King Ave., Beech St., Bay St., Breland St., Cherry Ave., Hendrix St., Peachtree Ave., and Mayo St. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to approve MaxxSouth road bores along the following streets: Brian Dr., St. Francis Dr., and Canal Place. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to surplus and send to auction with GovDeals a 2004 GMC truck and a 755 John Deere from the Cemetery Department. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to accept the resignation of Justin Gibbs from the Cemetery Department effective April 1. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to hire Decurtis Davis as Patrolman 1st Class effective April 3 with the Police Department at $15.86 per hour. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to allow East Central Planning & Development to move forward with the Community Development Block Grant for the Annex building. The motion was approved unanimously;
• Approve a motion to terminate Michael Graham. Shaun Seales recused himself from the vote. Aldermen Clearman, Waltman, and Tatum voted aye and the motion passed.
