A $2.9 million renovation of the Neshoba General Nursing Home has focused on 72 of the old nursing home rooms.

The work has added new HVAC units, cabinets, floors, and wooden blinds as well as repainting walls and ceilings.

The Board of Supervisors last Monday approved paying Perry Construction $93,308 and East Central Planning & Development District’s invoice of $6,000 out of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Nursing Home Renovation Project.

After the county received the $600,000 federal grant in late 2021, construction began in October 2022.

“Each individual resident will be able to control the temperature in their room versus being on a forced air system,” said Nursing Home Administrator Johnny Crenshaw. “The heating and cooling were in pretty poor conditions, so we renovated the rooms while we were replacing the units.”

Of the 72 rooms, 53 have already been completed as the project is currently in Phase IV of five, with sights set for completion by the end of October.

As the home stretch is approaching, Neshoba General Nursing Home and its staff are excited to finish this year-long project that will help comfort residents and their visiting family members for years to come.

Crenshaw said the residents who have already moved back into the newly renovated rooms are really enjoying them so far.

There was a $1.2 million Mississippi Development Authority CAP Loan in addition to the $600,000 CDBG monies. Neshoba General Hospital and Nursing Home will fund the remaining cost of the improvements, according to County Administrator Jeff Mayo.
