Two Canton men have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred here last Thursday evening, the authorities said.

The men, Arion L. Moore, 18, and Rico L. Moore Jr., 20, both of 388 Ricks Drive, Apt. 8A, Canton, are the suspects arrested and charged, Police Chief Eric Lyons said.

The two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Winston County Jail where they are currently being held on counts of aggravated assault and shooting at a vehicle and could possibly face additional charges, he said.

Lyons said the arrests stem from a shooting reported on March 23 at about 10:15 p.m. when PPD officers responded to reports of a person being shot on Jericho Street.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female who was sitting in her vehicle which was parked at a residence. According to Lyons, three bullets hit the vehicle she was sitting in.

“No one was confirmed to be shot at that time,’ Lyons said. “Minor injuries were observed in relation to the female and that vehicle being shot.”

Officers then learned that the actual shooting occurred a block over on Loper Street where a group of people were at a residence and fired over 15 shots at a vehicle that was passing by the house.

The shots at that vehicle missed and hit the vehicle the female was sitting in on Jericho Street, official said.

Lyons said the target vehicle was occupied by a male, a female, and a baby. Officers received vehicle information and descriptions of possible suspects involved in the shooting that left the scene.

“A BOLO was issued to surrounding cities including Canton where the shooters were reported to be from,” Lyons said.

Apbout two hours later Canton PD made a stop on the vehicle and took the two suspects and two juveniles into custody, Lyons said.

The two juveniles were released to guardians but could face charges as the investigation continues, Lyons said.
