Tornadoes pick up region win over Eupora

The Philadelphia Tornadoes put everything together Friday night as they took a 56-14 victory over Eupora.

The Tornadoes improve to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the Region 4-2A standings. They visit Union Thursday in regular season finale for both teams. The Yellowjackets come in an 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the region.

“It was good to get a win but we are still making too many mistakes,” said Tornadoes coach David Frey. “We have got to get better on defense. Union has a good team, especially on offense. It is going to come to us getting some stops.”

Philadelphia jumped out to a 32-0 lead in the first quarter. On the second play of the game, quarterback Bernard Parker ran 69 yards for a touchdown. Parker scored the two point conversion and the Tornadoes led 8-0.

The Tornadoes forced Eupora to punt. On first down, Parker connected with Dee Burnside on an 80-yard TD pass play. C.J. Rush scored the two point conversion and the Tornadoes led 16-0.

Again, the Tornadoes held Eupora to four downs. Then Parker connected with Keatham Graham on a 65-yard touchdown pass play. Rush scored the two point conversion and the Tornadoes led 24-0.

Rush scored on a nine-yard run to close out the first quarter scoring blitz. Rush added the two point conversion and Philadelphia led 32-0 heading into the second.

Rush scored again on a 56-yard run. The two point conversion was good and the Tornadoes led 40-0.

Later, Philadelphia blocked a punt. The ball was in the endzone and Eupora fell on it for a safety. At the half, Philadelphia led 42-0.

The second half was played with a running clock. The Tornadoes scored on their first possession when Burnside ran 13 yards for a touchdown. Bryson Boler kicked the extra point and the Tornadoes led 49-0.

Eupora scored late in the third quarter on a 67-yard TD pass play. The two point conversion was good and the Tornadoes led 49-8.

Philadelphia’s final points came on a 35-yard TD run by Graham. Boler kicked the extra point and the Tornadoes led 56-8. Eupora scored again on a pass to end the scoring.

Parker finished the game with five carries for 85 yards. He completed 7-of-8 passes for 183 yards. Burnside has two rushes for 45 yards and two receptions for 86 yards. Rush had eight carries for 141 yards.
