A Philadelphia teenager was murdered Friday afternoon and another teen was charged.

Austin Jarriel, 19, of Walnut Grove was arrested and charged with the murder of 18-year-old Braydon “Brody” Talbert, according to the authorities.

Philadelphia Police Det. Bobby Pattillo said that on Friday, July 31 at about 2 p.m. the department received a call concerning a gunshot victim in the area of north Donald Avenue.

Responding officers discovered Talbert suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at a residence there. He was transported to Neshoba General by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses identified Jarriel as the assailant. He later turned himself in at the Philadelphia Police Department where he was charged with Talbert’s murder.

Asked about a motive, Pattillo said, “All I can give you is that case is currently under investigation.”

Friends and loved ones took to social media with the hashtag #LongLiveBraydenTalbert. Jada Grant said that “there was never a dull moment” with Talbert and remembered how he would exclaim “Jimay” when he saw her around the school.

“Another one of our classmates leaving us so soon,” Grant said. “This boy was one of the realest, sweetest people you’d ever meet, always making sure I smiled instead of looking mean.”

Baliegh Miller posted some pictures of her friend. She lamented that he would not see her graduate as she goes into her senior year.

“I’m lost for words right now but all I can say is that I love you so much Brayden losing my best friend and little/big brother has hurt me so bad,” Miller wrote.

In April, a 17-year-old was arrested in the March 25 shooting death of another Philadelphia teen.

Korzay Willis of Philadelphia was charged in the shooting death of 19-year-old Jeremiah Hathorn, police said.

Another Philadelphia teen was shot Friday night by another teen and survived. (See story, page 3A.
