The Leake Academy basketball teams will enter postseason play with their work cut out for them.

The Rebelettes finished as the No. 3 seed in District 2-5A after losing 47-45 to Simpson in semifinals on Thursday. Leake then beat Lamar 66-45 to finish third.

The Rebels finished second in the district after falling to Simpson 41-32 in the finals. Leake beat Wayne 60-30 in the semifinals. 

The Leake girls move to 27-5 on the season and will advance to the North 5A Tournament at Bayou Academy as a No. 3 seed where they will face Pillow Academy in a first-round elimination contest at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Pillow has handed Leake two of its losses this season, a 49-34 setback in Madden and a 54-50 loss in Greenwood. 

The Leake boys move to 25-9 on the season, suffering their third loss to Simpson. Leake will advance as a No. 2 seed out of district play and will take on host Bayou on Tuesday in a 4 p.m. contest. 

Simpson boys 41, Leake 32

The Rebels couldn’t manage enough offense as the Cougars took a nine-point win to claim the district championship on Friday.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 17 points while Matthew Nowell had four points. 

Leake girls 66, 

Lamar School 45

The Rebelettes overcame a first-period deficit and pulled away to take a 21-point win over the Lady Raiders on Friday in the district tournament consolation game.

Katye Jones led Leake with 15 points and four rebounds while Sarah Prince had 12 points. Anna Morgan Young had eight points, three rebounds and three steals while Marleigh Myers had seven points and five rebounds. Olivia Rudolph had seven points, four rebounds and four assists while Ella Bell and Jenna Allen each had six points apiece. Addie Crowe also had five points and two rebounds.

Katye Jones led Leake with 12 points and five rebounds while Olivia Rudolph had nine points and five rebounds. Sarah Prince had eight points while Jenna Allen had five points. Marleigh Myers, Anna Morgan Young and Caroline Cheatham each had three points apiece while Myers pulled down five rebounds.
