A precious baby girl arrived on July 7, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces of perfection. She was welcomed into the loving arms of her parents, Pete and Rebecca DeWeese, who had been joyously anticipating her arrival. She has been named Bailey Crockett DeWeese (Etta). Etta's big sister, Josie, is "over the moon with her baby!"  Her Philadelphia grandparents are Bettye DeWeese and the late Fent DeWeese. Congratulations!

Two Philadelphia High School students, Aja Dupree and Douglas Young, attended Global Teaching Project's 7th Annual STEM Summit Preparatory Program at Mississippi State University recently.  STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Promising high school students from rural Mississippi communities are provided with immersive instruction to help them prepare to take various Advanced Placement (AP) science courses in the coming school year. Aja and Douglas attended the AP Computer Studies portion of the Summer Program.

Each year the Mississippi Coaches' Wives Association awards two Will to Win scholarships to seniors whose parent is a coach. One of the recipients this year was Lauren Gwen Posey of Philadelphia who is a 2023 graduate of NCHS. Both of her parents, Pepper and Shannon Harrison Posey, are coaches which is rather unusual.

The applicants must write an essay and submit two letters of recommendation along with a transcript. The essay was a response to the question, "How has being the child of a coach affected your life?" She read her essay to her parents earlier and both of them were very touched to hear her point of view. Congratulations!
