Just Among Friends

Wednesday evening the First Baptist Church family life center was filled with all kinds of strange individuals-a unicorn, Pocahontas, Barbie, a minion, a cowgirl, a cat, Nancy Drew, and even a small spotted cow were among them. They were all attending the church's annual Fall Festival and having a lot of fun.

There were many different activities from which to choose as well as refreshments. There was a center for pictures decorated with a colorful balloon arch, fall mums, and a "Happy Fall" banner across the backdrop. The children enjoyed having their pictures made in their costumes. It was a great evening for all of the guests!

The Mississippi Phillies Baseball Club closed the book recently on their season. These boys started in February 2017 and finished today. Everyone might not understand the depth of their emotions on game day.

The Mississippi Phillies are an unusual team because they have played together as a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds. Now it's over and that group boys is 12 and 13 years old and still together.  They grew together as a team. Through the bad(really bad) and the good (really good)they stuck it out together. The team is so thankful for all of their families, friends, and fans who supported them throughout the years.

The Phillies won the 13U Perfect Game Mississippi Fall Championship in Pearl,  MS.

Members of the team are: Canon Butler; Ryals Wilkerson; Harper Holley: Kooper Smith: Corbin Myers: Mason Rushing: CJ Spencer: Peyton Irby: Maddox Mars: and Henry Adams. Coaches are Trent Butler, Joey Irby, Jessie Smith, and Hunter Holley. Congratulations!

The Decatur City Dance Group in Decatur, Georgia, recently presented a charming production of "Once Upon a Time Enchanted Classics" in the Drew Center for the Arts Theater.

The first ballet was from Swan Lake, "Swans" Acts 2&3. Sofia Satterfield danced in her first performance with this group on stage as a young swan. She looked ethereal in her beautiful white costume and ballet slippers.

The next performance was the "Sylphs" from the classic ballet, "Les Sylphides". Sofia danced as a Sylph. A sylph is a mythological spirit of the air. Her costume was another beautiful creation which enhanced her natural beauty. She has taken ballet lessons for 10 years and has developed into a very graceful dancer.

Her Philadelphia grandparents, Tom and Lynn Holland Benson attended the dress rehearsal and were enchanted with her performance. Her mother, Sarah Benson Satterfield, had a front row seat! Congratulations!

Last Friday was a special day for all of those students in grades K-6 at Philadelphia Elementary School who met their AR reading goals for the first 9 weeks. They enjoyed a trip to see "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile" at Canal Place Cinema. They had popcorn and drinks which added to the fun! Congratulations to all of these students!

To show their appreciation for their beloved Philadelphia Public School bus drivers during Bus Drivers Appreciation week, Philly Cheer made a sign from the student body to honor them. Philly Cheer would go nowhere without their drivers!

The sign, written in large, colorful block letters, said, "PHS Bus Drivers Rock"! The girls hung it outside where the buses load at the high school.
