First United Methodist Church welcomed a tiny new member of the congregation during the morning worship service on April 10.  Carty Thames was baptized by her great grandfather, the Reverend Rodney Smith, a retired Methodist minister from Moselle, Mississippi. Her parents are Sam and Shelby Smith Thames. The Reverend Smith also baptized her mother, Shelby, and also performed the marriage ceremony for her parents, Shelby and Sam Thames.

Carty wore a beautiful long white gown with tucks across the bottom which made her look even more angelic.  There were several members of her family present for this very special ceremony.  Among them were Harold Carleton Smith, her great grandfather, Betty Thames, her great grandmother, grandparents, Steve and Sue Ellen Smith, grandparents, Clint and Karon Barnes, Uncle Lee Smith, and three of her daddy's brothers and their families, as well as many other family members and friends who were present.  It was a great family turnout for this special occasion.
