East Philadelphia Baptist Church was the setting for a bridal shower honoring Destiny Wells on August 29. It was a drive-by shower on the side entrance to the church.

A long table covered with a floor-length white cloth held a lovely floral arrangement in the center and streamers of fresh-cut ivy trailed across the cloth on either side of the flowers. Trays of petit fours wrapped in clear cellophane and tied with ribbon balanced the sides. A picture of the couple was displayed near the floral arrangement. Bottles of ice water were served to the guests with petit fours as they drove up. Looking lovely in a white summer dress, Destiny greeted her guests and received their good wishes and congratulations.

It was a beautiful day and many friends and relatives came to celebrate Destiny and Austin.  Hostesses for the occasion were her aunts, Lynette Kilpatrick and Susie Wells and sister, Windee Wells Sanders. Members of the bridal party assisted with the shower.

Destiny and Austin Loftin will be married on October 17 in Kosciusko at The Aisle venue.

One of Philadelphia's newest citizens traveled to New Mexico recently to participate in a special ceremony. Little Miss Kaya Nizhoni Juanita Murray, daughter of Jay and Amanda Murray, was placed in her cradleboard at sunrise by her great-grandma as she spoke in her native language (Mescalero Apache). Her grandmother, Linda Murray made the beautiful white dress Kaya wore for this special occasion. Her cradleboard is a work of art and will become a family heirloom.

Kaya's big brother, Sebastion, and sister, Marlee, were present for this unique ceremony which is a very old tradition with the Mescalero-Apache tribe. Kaya's ethnic heritage includes Mississippi Choctaw, Mescalero-Apache, and Navajo. Philadelphia grandparents are Steve and Linda Murray. What a beautiful custom!

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher Boston who recently received the Mississippi Medical Association Community Service Award. The award is given to a physician in recognition of his civic activities that improve the community. The physician must be actively engaged in both the practice of medicine and community service.

Dr. Boston was awarded an engraved plaque and a $500 contribution to a charity of his choice. He has extensive and interesting credentials which led to his selection.

Dr. Boston is married to the former Meredith Nowell of Philadelphia. They are the parents of four children. Her parents, Sam and June Nowell, are very proud of his award.

The University of Mississippi's yearbook, The Ole Miss Yearbook, has been published since 1897 with the motto, "By students, For students". The 123rd edition for 2020-2021 is currently in progress.

Burgin McClellan, a junior from Philadelphia, is a member of the yearbook photo staff team. She is very active in student affairs and maintains an exceptional GPA. This sounds like another fun project for her!
