MAY 10, 1940

Dr. W.L. Watkins of Philadelphia was named to the Board of Trustees of State Elementary Institutions as the member from the Central District in an appointment made by Paul B. Johnson. Dr. Watkins' appointment was one of 43 the governor sent to the Senate in Jackson and was speedily firmed along with others.



MAY 12, 1950

Marvin Dallas was also recently named External Relationship Chairman and Librarian for the Baptist Student Union at the College and recently attended the Student Retreat at the Ellisville Junior College. Marvin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Dallas, of Philadelphia.



MAY 12, 1960

Virginia Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Odell Wells, has been named Valedictorian, and Patricia Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Breland Hill, has been named Salutatorian of the 1960 graduating class at Neshoba County High School. Miss Wells had an average of 98 and Miss Hill had an average of 97.

Shelly Shumaker, daughter of Mrs. Corinne Shumaker and the late Grady Shumaker, was elected drum major of the Philadelphia high school band this week. She has been a member of the high school band for three years and a member of the drum quintette.



MAY 14, 1970

The Neshoba County 4-H land judging team displays the trophy they won for placing first in the Southeast Region. The boys that won are; Robert Burkes, Steve Barnett, Neal Luke, and Dale Green. They also placed ninth in the International Contest held in Oklahoma City. Burkes placed sixth in individual scoring in the 4-H Division of the International Contest.

Second Lieutenant Michael W. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Allen of Philadelphia, is currently serving with Advisory Team 42 in Vietnam. he has been in Vietnam since March 20. Lt. Allen is a graduate of Philadelphia High School. He graduated in 1968 from Mississippi State University with a major in Political Science.





MAY 8, 1980

Gilbert Collier and Obbie Riley, football standouts for Neshoba Central High School last year, have signed football scholarships with East Central Junior College in Decatur. They become the seventh and eighth Rocket football players to sign with the Warriors.

Teresa Lyons was crowned Debutante Debut winner at Westside Community Center for age division 16-18. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Lyons. Her escort was Charles Gipson. This program was sponsored by the Neshoba County Recreation Club.





MAY 9, 1990

The Neshoba Central High School Band was among the winners in the 1990 Six Flags Over Georgia Band Festival. The concert and jazz bands received Best in Class awards in the AA class. The marching band received all As and had one of the highest scores of the day. Band directors George Shaw, Cary Eldridge, and Ken Reich commended the band on job well done.



MAY 10, 2000

Yulone Chere Stewart of Philadelphia has been awarded a Second Century Scholarship for Music to Millsaps College. The scholarships total over $50,000.00 for four years of college. Miss Stewart is the daughter of Alan and Penny Stewart. She is the salutatorian of the 2000 graduating class of Neshoba Central High School.



MAY 12, 2010

BreAnna Tullos received the Prentice Copeland Award and the Marliana Watkins Memorial Scholarship at the annual FFA Awards Banquet. She is the daughter of Tanya and Randy Watkins. She has been a member of FFA for three years.
