November 26, 1943

To the delight not only of numerous admiring members of the congregation to which he is minister but to friends over the entire section, the Rev. Hugh C. Castle has been returned as pastor of the First Methodist Church here for another year.

A new industry, the building of wooden toys, has begun here by A. E. Mayo, proprietor of the Mayo Electric Co. For the present, this new industry, which was started about three weeks ago, is building three sizes of toy wagons, a wheelbarrow and a cart, all being made entirely of wood.

              

November 26, 1953

One of the most unusual stories ever recorded in the annals of local history was unfolded here a few days ago when it was learned that a tombstone had remained in the G. M. and O. freight depot for approximately 25 years, unclaimed.

Duke H. Thornton, editor of the Neshoba Democrat, will bring to the local service organization information and views on the world-wide struggle between materialistic communism and the Christian faith gained during his tour of countries which are the battleground for this war of ideas.

     November 28, 1963    

One of the largest crowds ever to attend was present at the annual Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce annual banquet last Thursday night at the National Guard armory. About 300 people were present.

Climaxing a nine-month program under the leadership of the Manpower Development Training Act, East Central Junior College this week graduated thirteen skilled automotive mechanics.

November 29, 1973

Millie Howell, Philadelphia artist, received the top award at the recent LaFont art workshop in Pascagoula. Mrs. Howell received the South Central Bell Telephone purchase prize of $200 for her acrylic, "Metamorphosis."

November 30, 1983

A drive began Tuesday morning to raise $40,580 as the local share of a proposed $101,450 "local history" addition to the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Public Library. Already available is $60,870 from the state in the form of federal Title II funds for the 1,650 square foot addition.

November 30, 1993 

Several mailboxes have been vandalized across Neshoba County over the past few weeks, Neshoba County Deputy Sheriff Donnie Adkins said Tuesday. An undetermined number of boxes were either stolen or vandalized on Deemer Road over the weekend.

      

November 26, 2003

Neshoba County and Philadelphia schools were awarded $60,000 to fund reading, writing and math projects as part of the Weyerhaeuser Foundation's Southern Schools Partnership.

Plans are under way for the send off of the 298th Corps Support Battalion, which received mobilization orders Nov. 12. An official ceremony is set for Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7p.m., in the armory with a parade to follow.

Clay, Will and Noah Eubanks can't wait for their next haircuts at Knots, the new kids-oriented salon on the square. The two youngest brothers took turns trying out the airplane and fire truck at Knots while Clay, the oldest, sait in the big chair as all three received haircuts.

"A Night at the Manger," capturing a walk through Nativity and a Bethlehem marketplace will be presented by the Neshoba Baptist Association next month. The Nativity will be for one night only on Dec. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Neshoba Baptist Association Center on Valley View Drive.
