COVID-19 cases continue to decline across the county

COVID-19 cases continue to drop in Neshoba County, with only two new cases and no new deaths reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health as of Tuesday.

Neshoba County’s total COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began is now 4,030, which is two more than last week and the death toll remains at 176 where it has been for at least four weeks, according to the MSDH. 

Meanwhile, 18% of Neshoba County’s population is fully vaccinated as of Monday, according to MSDH and 20% of the county’s population has received one of the 12,075 total doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in the county, up 1,572 from last week’s report.

Vaccinations are being administered Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Coliseum, 12000 Hwy 15 North, Philadelphia and are available to all Mississippians 16 and older.

Neshoba County Schools reported between one and five new cases of COVID-19 among students, and between one and five new cases among teachers and staff at Neshoba Central Elementary, with two students quarantined at Philadelphia High School between April 26 and 30. 

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has reported no new positive cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths as of May 9, putting the total number of positive cases for the Tribe at 1,837 with 114 deaths. No new hospitalizations have been reported. 

The state's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases now stands at 192,120 with 121,822 probable cases for a total of 313,942 cases as of Tuesday and 4,990 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and another 2,250 probable COVID-19 deaths for a total of 7,240 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.
