A Carthage man wanted in connection with a December mugging at one of the casinos has been arrested, Sheriff Eric Clark said.

Mecedric Cortez Kirkland, 32, 2672 Madden Road, Carthage was arrested and charged with robbery and aggravated assault-manifest extreme indifference to life.

Kirkland remains in the Neshoba County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.

Clark said that Kirkland is wanted in connection with a robbery of a Silver Star casino patron reported on Dec. 7.

Clark said that Kirkland and the victim made contact playing slot machines when Kirkland said that he was an undercover security guard and would escort the victim back to his room.

At the victim's room in the casino, Kirkland assaulted the victim and took $1,500, his cell phone and several slot machine coupons.

Clark said that Kirkland was identified through the casino's security system and was arrested on Jan. 20.
