The theft of a GMC pickup on Road 2606 near the Pow Wow early last week is being investigated, Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said

The truck was one of eight to 10 vehicles burglarized  on Monday, Oct. 3, he said.

A spare key was inside the truck that was stolen, he said.

“I want to remind everyone in our community that vehicle burglaries are one of the top crimes we see in Neshoba County,” Clark said. “In the majority of car burglaries the vehicle was left unlocked or keys were in the car. We want to remind people to lock their cars at night, secure their keys and make sure there are no valuables visible to the outside of the vehicle that could entice a potential burglar.”

The vehicles were located along County Road 151 and County Road 2606, a roughly straight shot traveling northeast to the southwest. Clark said items taken ranged from loose change to a laptop computer.

Clark said the vehicle was recovered off of Black Jack Road along with a backpack and laptop reported stolen from one of the other vehicles. The truck was recovered between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., just about an hour after the theft was reported, according to Clark.

The case remains under investigation, Clark said. Three teenagers were spotted walking along the roadway the previous night. One of the teens was identified as a juvenile who has been connected to other vehicle-related crimes including vehicle break-ins at the casinos and a white truck taken from the Fairgrounds during The Neshoba County Fair.

He said that particular suspect is also wanted by the Choctaw Police Department on an unrelated matter.

Clark said the vehicle was recovered less than 100 yards from Jefferson Road. He said the road dead ends at an abandoned house and that there is a small tent city that is known to exist behind the house.
