Youth football title games upcoming for area teams

Area Wide Youth Sports will be hosting their youth football championships in the next couple of weeks, featuring teams in different age groups from Neshoba County and other teams in the surrounding area. 

Founded in 2018, Area Wide Youth Sports has grown immensely within the football scene in Neshoba County and the surrounding area, and have now expanded to youth baseball and basketball leagues. 

“It’s all about the children and giving these parents a more affordable option for their child to play sports, while not having to travel a lot and still playing great competition,” Area Wide Sports CEO Greg Fulton said. “Another goal of mine when we founded this was to give children the opportunity to fall in love with something that will keep them in trouble.”

The league will be playing championships for all four of their leagues and hosting a cheer competition at East Central Community College on Thanksgiving weekend, November 30th. 

The cheer competition will kick off the day at 12 PM. On the football side, Neshoba County will take on Sebastopol at 1:30 PM for the Tinimite Division championship, Union will take on Sebastopol at 2:30 in the Rookie Division championship, Newton County will take on Neshoba County at 4:15 PM in the Midget Division championship, and Winston County will take on Sebastopol at 6:15 PM in the Peewee Division championship. 

Each championship winner will receive a crystal ball trophy and both teams will receive medals following the championship action.

These youth teams have served as feeder programs for each community’s local high schools since the organization was founded in 2018.

“We have these programs serve as feeder programs for the high schools in the area, which has been a great system for our league and the surrounding communities,” Fulton said. “All of the coaches have been pleased with the results and we hope to continue these great relationships in the future.”

Area Wide Youth Sports has had basketball incorporated in the last few years and will have teams in places such as Neshoba County, Kemper County, Carthage, and Newton City this season.

The organization will also begin baseball this summer in Neshoba County and the surrounding area.
