Youth Fishing Rodeo set for April 26 at Northside Park

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) invites all to grab your fishing poles and enjoy a day of fun at Northside Park.

Anglers 12 years and younger are invited to fish for catfish during the Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 8 a.m., where they will have the opportunity to win prizes for different fish categories and even tagged fish.

This event would not be possible without the partnership of Outdoor Neshoba and the Philadelphia Police Department along with many other participating community members.

Youth fishing rodeos offer an exciting opportunity for kids to experience the thrill of fishing while creating lasting memories with family and friends—because it’s not just about the catch, but about the fun, adventure, and time spent together.

Youth fishing rodeos feature educational activities focusing on fish, fishing, and conservation provided by biologists from the Fisheries Bureau and Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, along with volunteer anglers.

Additionally, the Law Enforcement Bureau provides boating and fishing safety information.

“Bring the kids 12 and under out to Northside Park for a fun-filled day at the fishing rodeo,” said State Fishing Rodeo Coordinator Sherry Hazelwood.

“There’s lots of activities to do in a safe environment. Great family time! Come on out.”

Northside Park is located at 100 Burt Drive off North Pecan Avenue near the National Guard complex.
