Union High School basketball teams split two games last week.

The Union girls opened the week with a 32-31 overtime win over Lake, and then dropped a 33-19 decision to Newton High School. The Lady Yellowjackets have a 14-4 overall record and stand at 2-1 in the Region 6-2A standings. They are ranked No. 5 in the start rankings for Class 2A girls teams.

The Union boys rolled over Lake 53-11 and then lost a 54-42 decision to Newton High School. The Yellowjackets stand at 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the region standings.

Union will visit Scott Central on Tuesday and host Lake on Friday,

Kamyia Russell and Keirra Russell each scored nine points to pace the Lady Yellowjackets. The score stood at 27-27 after four quarters, Union put in five points during the overtime period while Lake scored four.

Newton led 22-14 at the half. After a low scoring third quarter, the Lady Tigers outpointed Union 10-3 in the final quarter to put the game away. Keirra Russell led with nine points.

The Lake Hornets had no answer for the Yellowjackets, who went up 22-5 at the half. E.J. Campbell led with 12 points while Dylan Hunter scored 11 points.

The Newton Tigers led 27-20 at the half and held on throughout the second half. Jamarcus Jones led with 15 points.
