Yellowjackets tame Tigers 35-10
The Union High School Yellowjackets open Region 6-2A play with a 35-10 victory over visiting Newton High School last Friday night in prep football action.
Union honored its senior players before the game.
Quarterback Kenyon Clay continued his fine play, completing 6-of-13 passes for 279 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 80 yards and a TD on 14 carries.
Most of Clay’s passing went to Markus Jones, who caught five balls for 214 yards and a TD. UHS running back Jaheim Gill ran 16 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a 65-yard TD reception in the victory.
The Jackets outgained Newton 433-236 in total yardage and won the turnover battle 4-1. Peyton Posey and Tradarian Campbell each recorded a sack to lead the Union defense, who held Newton scoreless through the first three quarters. Union improves to 4-1 while Newton suffered its first loss and falls to 3-1.
The Jackets will hit the road to play Stringer, while Newton heads home to play Scott Central on Thursday.
